Course Overview

WHY SERIOUS ILLINOIS CARRIERS TRAIN HERE

Most CCL classes in Illinois scrape by at the legal minimum. PowerPoints. War stories. Long lunch.

You leave with a card… and no real confidence.

At JM Training, we treat this like the start of your defensive shooting journey, not a necessary evil. You get:

  • Instructors with real‑world experience in defensive shooting, not just reading slides
  • A structured path after class so you don’t become the “took one class and never trained again” statistic
  • A culture that cares about you going home safe, not just filling seats

WHO THIS CLASS IS / IS NOT FOR

This class IS for you if:

    • You’re an Illinois resident who wants to carry legally and responsibly
    • You’re willing to sit through the full 16 hours, do the work, and pass the qual
    • You want real training, not the cheapest certificate you can find

This class is NOT for you if:

    • You’re looking for shortcuts around the required hours
    • You plan to ignore the law and “wing it”
    • You’re unwilling to follow range safety rules to the letter

    INSTRUCTOR & TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

JM Training was built by people with real defensive shooting experience and a simple mission:
Teach normal people to shoot fast, accurate, and under stress so they can protect the people they love.

We run data‑driven defensive shooting assessments, track your progress over time, and give you a clear path beyond this class. This 16‑hour course is just the on‑ramp.

    Illinois CCL Class FAQ

    • Do I need a FOID card first?
No. You can take the class without a FOID, but you’ll need it before you submit your CCL application.
    • I’ve never shot a gun before. Is that a problem?
No. We work with complete beginners all the time. If you’re very nervous, ask about a short private lesson before class.
    • Is this class recognized by the Illinois State Police?
Yes. Our curriculum is on the ISP approved list and meets the full 16‑hour requirement.
    • What if I need to reschedule?
Call or text 708-726-0946 at least 24 hours in advance and we’ll move you to another date — as many times as you need, with no reschedule fee. We don’t issue refunds, so your payment stays on your account until you take the class.
    • How much does the class cost?
Our Illinois concealed carry class comes two ways. All-In Illinois CCL Starter — $197: the full 16-hour course, range fees, handgun and ammunition rental if you need them, help building your FOID and CCL profiles, paperwork submitted for you, eye and ear protection and targets, and our first-time approval guarantee. Class Only — $130: the course, range fees, eye and ear protection and targets, and you handle your own state application. Both prices include the card processing fee, so the number you see is the number you pay.
    • Can I reserve a seat without paying in full?
Yes. Our Hold My Seat option takes a $50 deposit — just your name, email, phone number and the class date you want. We text you to finish enrolling and take the balance before class day. The $50 comes off your total and isn’t refundable, but you can move to a different date as many times as you need.
    • I don’t own a handgun. Can I still take the class?
Yes, and plenty of our students don’t. The All-In package includes a rental handgun and all the ammunition you shoot — no extra charge and no separate ammo bill.
    • Do I have to shoot to pass?
Yes. You shoot 30 rounds with no time limit — 10 rounds each from the 5, 7 and 10 yard lines — and you need 80% to pass. Beginners who have never fired a handgun pass this every weekend, because the class teaches exactly what the qualification asks for.
    • How old do I have to be?
You must be 21 or older. That’s the state minimum for an Illinois concealed carry license, for residents and non-residents alike.
    • I’ve had firearms training before. Does any of it count?
Possibly. Illinois allows up to 8 of the 16 hours to be credited in three situations: prior firearms training that has been approved by the Illinois State Police (bring your certificate); military service, where active, retired or honorably discharged members of the U.S. Armed Forces receive 8 hours (send us your DD-214); and prior law enforcement or corrections work, where you must show you separated from each agency in good standing. Call us at 708-726-0946 with what you have and we’ll tell you what it’s worth before you book.
    • What does the state charge for the license?
$150 for Illinois residents and $300 for non-residents, paid directly to the Illinois State Police. That’s separate from the class.
    • How long until my license arrives?
The Illinois State Police have 90 days to issue your license if you submit electronic fingerprints with your application, and 120 days if you don’t. Fingerprinting is optional and runs $75 through a third-party vendor — it’s the difference between roughly three months and four.
    • How long is an Illinois concealed carry license good for?
Five years. Renewing takes a 3-hour class rather than the full 16, and we run that one too.
    • Can I take this class if I live outside Illinois?
Yes. Illinois issues non-resident concealed carry licenses and the training requirement is the same 16 hours. The state’s application fee is $300 for non-residents instead of $150.
