This course is among the most thorough in the nation, and for good reason: it’s designed to ensure that every applicant is well-prepared, knowledgeable, and capable of safely carrying a firearm in public.
Hi, I’m Joe Malone, founder of JM Training and a former Special Operations Marine. At JM Training, we emphasize comprehensive and practical firearms education through our Concealed Carry and Personal Protection Programs. As required by Illinois law, the concealed carry training we offer includes 16 hours of instruction, including time spent on the range.
Here’s what the Illinois Concealed Carry course covers:
- Firearm Safety – You’ll learn the essentials of handling and storing firearms safely, both at home and while carrying.
- Marksmanship Fundamentals – We teach the basics of shooting, including proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control.
- Cleaning & Maintenance – Care and upkeep of your firearm is crucial. We’ll cover how to clean, disassemble, and maintain your handgun.
- Legal Responsibilities – Understanding state and federal laws about firearm ownership, transportation, and use is crucial. We also cover how to interact with law enforcement when carrying.
- Live Fire Qualification – To qualify, students must pass a live fire exercise at distances of 5, 7, and 10 yards. This test consists of a minimum of 30 rounds fired at a target.
For veterans or those who’ve taken certain firearm safety courses, up to 8 hours of this training can be waived, but for most, we strongly recommend completing the full course to ensure you’re fully confident and capable.
